Hype 3x3 Hockey: A Triumph of Speed and Unpredictability in Tartu!!

The 3x3 hockey format continues to captivate both athletes and fans, offering a dynamic, high-intensity version of the game where every second counts, and mastery of stick-handling and physical endurance take center stage. On June 5–6, 2026, the Estonian city of Tartu hosted the second tournament of the Hype 3x3 Hockey series, an event organized by the Latvian 3x3 Hockey Federation (Hype Hockey). This series has quickly established itself as one of the most exciting highlights in the Baltic hockey calendar

The second edition of this tournament marked a significant step forward in both organization and the level of competition. Five ambitious teams participated: four collectives represented Latvia, and one represented the host country, Estonia. This international aspect added a special level of intensity to the competition, allowing for a clash of different tactical schools within the confined space of the 3x3 rink.

The atmosphere in the arena was charged with energy from the very first puck drop. A total of 13 intense matches were played over the course of two days. The hallmark of the 3x3 format is the near-total absence of "dull" play; the lack of traditional defensive structures forces players to improvise constantly, leading to a high volume of scoring chances and high-scoring affairs. As noted by the organizers, the tournament’s main appeal in Tartu was its absolute unpredictability: favorites could falter at any moment, while underdogs consistently fought hard to secure points against top-tier opponents.

The Path to the Final: On-Ice Drama

The culmination of the sporting weekend was the final matchup between Sherwood and Next Hockey SR. Both teams navigated a grueling tournament path, displaying immense discipline and resilience. The final was a true celebration of hockey: high speed, precise passing, and incredible saves by the goaltenders kept spectators on the edge of their seats until the final buzzer. In a dramatic battle, Next Hockey SR managed to snatch victory from Sherwood with a narrow score of 6:5. This gold medal was a well-deserved reward for their tactical flexibility and cohesive teamwork.

Recognition and Gratitude

The success of any sporting event is measured not only by the score on the board but also by the people who make it a reality. The organizers from the Latvian 3x3 Hockey Federation (Hype Hockey) would like to express their sincere gratitude to all participants for their incredible dedication, fair play, and drive to win. A special note of appreciation is extended to the sponsors, whose invaluable contributions made it possible to hold this tournament at such a high level. It is through this vital support that the infrastructure for amateur and semi-professional hockey continues to grow, opening new doors for emerging talent.

Looking Ahead

The success of the Tartu event has demonstrated that the Hype 3x3 Hockey format possesses enormous potential for growth. The organizers are not resting on their laurels and are already actively preparing for the next stage.

We invite all hockey fans to mark their calendars for June 27–28, 2026. The next tournament will take place in Mārupe, Latvia. Expectations are high that the roster of participants will be even more representative, and the organizers are preparing additional surprises to make the event even more thrilling for both players and fans. Hockey in the 3x3 format is a future being built right now, and the upcoming tournament in Mārupe promises to be a new milestone in this exciting story.
